An short interview with a Trekking Guide
Dear Business colleagues,
Hope I'm not bothering you all,
If you have a few minutes please go through my post.
An example of what is the difference between cheap, standard and luxury service when traveling?
Today I had a chance to have a long conversation with a trek guide from another trekking company in Kathmandu, he told he visits our website. His question was; Why is the trekking package price on our website higher than his company?
I asked him the following questions and wrote the answers together, and his answers were worth listening to.
1. How much daily wage do you get for trekking?
Answer: As a guide, I get 12$/day. And 10$/day for porter.
2. Is there personal accident insurance for trekking for guide and porter?
Answer: I heard that guides and porters should be insured, but I don't know if we have insurance yet.
3. What kind of tea house do you use for your guests?
Answer: It is recommended to stay in a cheap lodge, otherwise it will exceed the budget limit.
4. What is the food menu like and what kind of food do you serve? Do you offer anything for dessert?
Answer: Guests can't choose anything from the menu, if they order something from the menu, they have to pay extra, they get only 1 simple item/food, we also don't provide tea, coffee and hot water. No sweets.
5. Do they have to buy a glass of drinking water separately after eating?
Answer: That's why we are cheap.
********
Yes, that's the difference between your company and us, we can't even think of such a service, that's why our prices are higher.
1. We pay our guides and porters good salaries, they are fully insured for anything that might happen on the trail.
2. Our guests are accommodated in the best available lodges. In special cases (for luxury clients) we book the resort in advance from Kathmandu to avoid last minute hassle.
3. Our guests can have multiple dishes at a time, choosing from the printed menu. Tea/coffee and hot water as much as they want. And also offers desserts.
Remember this is your vacation it should be organized like a home away from home. You should go home with a big smile and a lifetime of memories. Thank you.
